What is the Pupil Premium Grant?

The Pupil Premium Grant is additional funding provided by the government to help schools close the attainment gap between children from disadvantaged backgrounds and their peers. At Orion Scotts Park, we are committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has the best possible opportunity to succeed both academically and personally.

Who is Eligible?

Pupil Premium funding is allocated to support:

  • Pupils eligible for free school meals (FSM)
  • Children who have been eligible for FSM in the past six years
  • Looked-after children and previously looked-after children
  • Children from service families

We encourage all parents to check their eligibility and apply for Pupil Premium, as this funding can make a significant difference to your child's educational experience.

How We Use Pupil Premium Funding

Following a thorough needs analysis, we allocate Pupil Premium funding strategically to support priority classes, groups, and individual pupils. Our provision is carefully tailored to address specific barriers to learning and may include:

  • Targeted Academic Support – Small group interventions and one-to-one tuition to close gaps in learning, particularly in reading and mathematics
  • Social and Emotional Support – Working with trained Teaching Assistants and external agencies to promote emotional wellbeing, resilience, and mental health
  • Enrichment Opportunities – Providing access to educational trips, clubs, cultural experiences, and resources that broaden horizons and inspire learning
  • Quality Resources – Investing in effective materials and evidence-based approaches that raise standards across the curriculum
  • Home-School Partnerships – Strengthening links with families to ensure parents feel supported in helping their children succeed

Our Commitment

All Pupil Premium spending is directed towards ensuring children meet at least age-related expectations while supporting their wider wellbeing and development. We review the impact of our strategy regularly to ensure funding is used effectively and makes a tangible difference to pupils' outcomes.

The use of the Pupil Premium Grant is reported to and monitored closely by our governing body to ensure accountability and continued effectiveness in raising standards for disadvantaged children.
