Pastoral Support

At Orion  Scotts Park , we understand that children achieve their best when they feel safe, supported, and emotionally secure. We are proud to offer comprehensive pastoral support through our dedicated Family Worker, who plays a vital role in supporting both our children and their families.

Our Family Worker

Our Family Worker provides tailored support for children and families, offering assistance around behaviour, anxiety, resilience, and a wide range of social and emotional needs. By working closely with pupils, parents, and staff, our Family Worker ensures that every child has access to the care and guidance they need to thrive both academically and personally.

Support for Children

We offer a range of pastoral interventions designed to meet the individual needs of our pupils:

  • 1:1 Scheduled Sessions: Children who have identified social or emotional needs receive regular one-to-one sessions in a safe, nurturing environment where they can explore their feelings, develop coping strategies, and build resilience.
  • Group Work: In Key Stage 2, we run group sessions focusing on key subjects such as transitions, resilience, friendship skills, and emotional regulation, helping children develop essential life skills alongside their peers.
  • Termly Reviews: All children on our pastoral support register receive termly reviews to monitor progress, celebrate achievements, and adjust support as needed to ensure continued development.

PACE Programme

Our Family Worker leads our PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy) programme, a therapeutic approach specifically designed to support our most vulnerable children. The PACE framework provides a nurturing, relationship-based intervention that helps children who have experienced trauma, attachment difficulties, or significant emotional challenges.

Through the PACE programme, our Family Worker creates a safe, trusting environment where children can:

  • Experience playful interactions that build connection and reduce anxiety
  • Feel accepted unconditionally, building their sense of self-worth and belonging
  • Explore their feelings and experiences with curiosity rather than judgement
  • Receive empathetic responses that validate their emotions and experiences

This evidence-based approach helps our most vulnerable children develop secure relationships, regulate their emotions more effectively, and build the foundations for successful learning and positive social interactions. The PACE programme reflects our deep commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of their circumstances or past experiences, receives the specialist support they need to flourish.

Support for Families

We recognize that supporting families is essential to supporting children. Our Family Worker offers:

  • Pastoral Parent Support: Through 1:1 meetings, parents can access confidential support, guidance, and signposting to external services when needed.
  • Partnership Working: We work collaboratively with families to understand their unique circumstances and provide tailored support that addresses barriers to learning and wellbeing.
  • Accessible Support: Parents can contact our Family Worker to discuss any concerns about their child's wellbeing, behaviour, or emotional needs, knowing they will receive compassionate, professional support.

The Impact of Our Pastoral Support

Our pastoral provision has a profound impact on our school community. Children who receive pastoral support develop greater emotional awareness, improved self-regulation, enhanced resilience, and increased confidence. As one child shared: "My sessions have really helped me because now I am beginning to understand how I can control my behaviour when I'm angry."

Another pupil reflected: "I always enjoy my sessions because they are lovely. They keep me calm and safe so that I feel I am supported and helped with my feelings."

Parents also value the support available, knowing that their family has access to professional guidance during challenging times. This partnership approach creates a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child can flourish.

Our Family Worker's dedication and expertise ensure that pastoral care remains at the heart of everything we do at  Orion Scotts Park, creating a school community where wellbeing, kindness, and support are prioritized alongside academic excellence.
