Forest School
Forest School at Orion Scotts Park Primary
We are proud to offer Forest School in our beautiful, purpose-built woodland area. Forest School is a child-centred, hands-on approach to learning that takes place outdoors, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and a love of nature.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Our Forest School programme supports children to develop socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually in a safe, nurturing environment. Pupils take thoughtful risks, try new activities, and learn through exploration and discovery in ways that aren't always possible within the four walls of a classroom.
Outdoor learning creates memorable experiences that enhance knowledge retention. We believe that opportunities to learn and play outside throughout the year, regardless of England's unpredictable weather, are just as important as indoor learning. For many children, these outdoor experiences are the most impactful—moments they remember most vividly and, often, only experience at school.
Building Confidence and Independence
Well-organised outdoor settings where children have the freedom to manage their own risks allow them to discover their true capabilities and potential. Through Forest School, children develop self-confidence, independence, resilience, and an appreciation for both a healthy lifestyle and the natural environment.
Learning to recognise and manage risks is a fundamental part of children's development. We carefully balance risk and opportunity to minimise danger while maximising fun and learning, using our wonderful school grounds to deliver the National Curriculum safely and creatively.
Forest School aligns perfectly with our school ethos, fostering strong relationships with peers and the natural world while building skills and experiences that enhance both academic learning and overall well-being.
